Public Research University Strategies for Enhancing Regional Innovation:
Building the tool kit
CICEP Summer Meeting
June 17-19, 2008
Sedona, Arizona
Chairman Michael M. Crow and the commission’s Executive Committee invite you to the NASULGC Commission on Innovation, Competitiveness and Economic Prosperity (CICEP) summer meeting to be held on June 17-19, 2008 in Sedona, Arizona.
“Public Research University Strategies for Enhancing Regional Innovation:
Building the tool kit"
Participating faculty, staff, administrators, business and government leaders will examine the role of public higher education in local, regional and national competitiveness and innovation. We encourage you to inform your colleagues whose responsibilities touch any of these areas of this important gathering.
CICEP (formerly the Commission on Technology Transfer, COTT) has expanded its agenda considerably -- embarking on a two year strategy to develop a “tool kit” of strategies and techniques to appropriately measure and characterize university contributions to innovation.
The summer meeting will continue this effort which began at the NASULGC Annual Meeting in November 2007. The opening session will include a review of the Commission’s progress to date and discussion of the remaining work plan. Sessions that follow will include an in-depth discussion of methodologies that institutions could employ to measure and document their contributions to innovation, why industries locate in certain areas, and how public universities respond to projected workforce needs in particular regions or industries.
The conference will continue the Commission’s examination of successful entrepreneurship programs for students and faculty and specific ways in which campuses can partner with state and local government to attract and retain companies and industries, with perspectives from both inside and outside the universities.
We encourage you to register early as the meeting is conceived as working sessions, limited to about 100 people. Registration and hotel information will be forward to you shortly and will be made available on the NASULGC web site www.nasulgc.org
