The Brown Bag Discussion

On January 13th, I followed my supervisor Marion started my first photo-shot event on behalf of the CCBP to cover the first Engaged Scholarship Brown Bag discussion in the Alabama Digital Humanities Center on the first floor of Gorgas Library.

During the meeting, two graduate students respectively talked about their projects. Elliot Knight, a doctoral candidate in Interdisciplinary Studies at the University of Alabama, where he developed the Black Belt 100 Lenses Project. He uses photovoice methodology to provide high school students with opportunities to share their perspectives about their communities, to develop creativity and leadership skills, and to become more civically engaged.

Andrew Grace, another speaker, is an independent documentary filmmaker whose recent project is an interactive documentary focused on the aftermath of the Tuscaloosa tornadoes. He tried to use each individual story to demonstrate the post-tornado life for Tuscaloosa residents.

Both guests hoped by using multimedia way to let people care about the local communities as well as show their creativity from humanities aspect.
